How do I search by name?

Select Search Current Tax Records By Name; then select Taxpayer.  Using ALL CAPS, enter the last name and press Search.   This will find all of the tax records for taxpayers with that last name.  If you enter the taxpayer's first name and an additional name (for ex., the spouse's name), you will reduce the number of items to review.  If you are uncertain about spelling the first or additional names, you may enter the first few letters instead of the entire name.  If you are searching for a business, use Search by Name/Business.  Enter the name of the business.  You do not have to enter the exact or complete name.   Find the name you want and display additional information by clicking on the Details link.  If you want a formatted page for printing, click on the Details link, then click on the Print-Friendly Page link at the top of the page.  To view past tax records for a parcel, no matter the owner, click on the parcel number.  To view past tax records for that name or a very similar name, click on the name.  You can sort the items on any screen by clicking the column heading.  To sort in reverse order, click again.

How do I search by property location?

Select Search Current Tax Records By Location.  First select the city, then the street.    Locate the property you are looking for and click on linked cells for detailed or past tax information.  You can sort the items by clicking on a column heading; click again to sort in reverse order.   If the street you are looking for does not appear in the dropdown box, select Hard to Find under the Search by Location menu option to display a list of city names; click on a city name to display a list of  street names.  Property location data comes from the Certified Tax Roll as provided to the County Treasurer.  The record may not be coded as expected and these last links list every city and street included in the data, even if they are misspelled or out of county.  Note:  Some counties do not support the location search. 

How do I search by legal description?

Under Search Current Tax Records, select By Legal.  If the property is located in an addition, select Addition.  If you know the Addition, Lot & Block codes and want to enter them directly, click on the Enter Code button at the top of the screen.   If you do not know the addition code, most counties allow you to search for it by selecting the city and then choosing the addition from the Addition box.   

To find tax information for rural properties, choose the Rural option under Search Current Tax Records By Legal. Select or enter Section, Township and Range.  While selecting may be a little slower, it prevents common mistakes.  To look up tax records, click the Tax Records button.  Find the property you want and display additional information by clicking on the Details link.  If you want a formatted page for printing, click on the Details link, then click on the Print-Friendly Page link at the top of the page.  To view past tax records for a parcel, no matter the owner, click on the parcel number.  To view past tax records for that name or a very similar name, click on the name.To look up mailing addresses, click the Mailing Addresses button. 

If the property is located in a city tract or rural subdivision, choose the applicable option from the Search Current Tax Records by Legal menu.  You can display all the records for a subdivision or city tract by selecting the code from the dropdown box.  If you prefer to narrow your search by township and range, click the Enter Code button.

Regardless of the option chosen, tax records can be sorted by clicking the column heading.  Clicking the heading twice sorts in reverse order.

How do I search by parcel?

This is an advanced search and is intended for the use of individuals who work with real estate data regularly.   Select Search Current Tax Records, By Parcel.  Enter the parcel number or the first few parts of it in the box and hit Search or Enter.  Locate the property you are looking for and click on linked cells for detailed and past tax information.   You can sort items by clicking on the column heading.  If you don't know the parcel number, you may be able to construct enough of the number to effectively use it for searching.  See below.

How do I find the tax history for a person or property?

Locate the individual or property using one of the searches described above.  Click on the name to find historical tax records for the individual or click on the parcel number to find tax records for a particular parcel.  Alternatively, select Search Past Tax Records and choose By Name or By Parcel.  Once you have located the item, display additional information by clicking on the Details link.  If you want a formatted page for printing, click on the Details link, then click on the Print-Friendly Page link at the top of the page. 

How do I find out if there is a individual certificate on a piece of property? 

Locate the property using one of the searches described above.   Property having an * under NOTE  has back taxes and/or an individual certificate.   Click the Details link for more information.  To locate all properties with individual certificates, go to View Reports, select Certificates.

How do I find the current mailing address for a taxpayer?

Locate the taxpayer using one of the searches described above.  Click the Details link for a copy of the tax record including current mailing address of the taxpayer.  To find mailing addresses for everyone in a section, township & range, go the Search By Legal Rural screen and select or enter the section, township, and range.  Click on the Mailing Addresses button.

How do I find past mailing addresses for a taxpayer?

Locate the taxpayer using one of the searches described above.  Click the name to display historical records for that taxpayer.  Select the desired year and click Details.  Alternatively, select Search Past Tax Records By Name.  Locate the taxpayer and select the desired year.  Click Details.

How do I find the complete legal description for a property?

Locate the property using one of the searches described above.  Click on Details for a copy of the tax record including the legal description.

How do I find out if the legal description for a property has changed?

Locate the property using one of the searches described above.  Click on the parcel number to display historical records for that parcel.  Find the desired year and click Details.  Alternatively, select Search Past Tax Records By Parcel.  Locate the parcel and select the desired year.  Click Details

How do I find out when a tax payment was made or if there was a penalty?

Locate the property or individual using one of the searches described above.  Click Details to display the tax record including payment details..

How do I find information about unpaid taxes?

Locate the property or individual using one of the searches described above.  If there are back taxes on the parcel, there will be an * in the NOTE field.  Click Details for more information.  For a report listing all properties or individuals with unpaid taxes, go to View Reports, Unpaid Taxes.  Select the desired years and hit Search.

How do I find historical information about tax payments?

Locate the property or individual using one of the searches described above.  Click the name or the parcel number  to display historical records by name or parcel respectively.  Find the desired year and click Details.  Alternatively, select Search Past Tax Records, then select By Name or By Parcel and complete the search.  Locate the desired record and click Details.

How do I find a name to search by when the property is an estate?

If you think the property is listed under another name, select Hard to Find option under Search Current Records by Name.  Enter any two names.  The drop-down box will contain all the tax items that contain your search terms.  This screen searches both the name field and the address field to find names that occur in either.  You may also enter the word "TRUST" as the only search term to return all tax records including the word Trust.

How do I find a name to search by when the tax bill is sent to a third party?

If the tax statement is mailed to a person other than the property owner, use the "In Care of" search under Search Current Tax Records, By Name.  Enter the LAST NAME and optionally the FIRST NAME. This screen searches the address field to find names that follow c/o or %. 

How is the parcel built or interpreted and how can I use it?

If you know the parcel number you can narrow your search directly to the property. Even if you don't know the parcel number, understanding the first four components of the parcel can help you refine a legal search.  The parcel number is built as follows:
       xxxx - addition code or city tract; for rural properties it equals 0000
       xx     - section; for additions, it equals 00
       xxx   -  township or block
       xxx   -  range or lot
Since the parcel search will search on part of a parcel, enter the desired number of fields.

How do I print tax records?

Locate the property or individual using one of the searches described above for Search Current Tax Records or Search Past Tax Records.  Click Details and then click Print-Friendly Page at the top of the screen  for a print ready copy of detailed tax information.  If you are using the Internet Explorer  you can turn off or turn on printing background colors.  To adjust the print margins , choose File, Page Setup from the Internet Explorer menu.

How do I pay my taxes online? (this feature is not available in all counties)

General Information

This service is provided with the cooperation of the Official Payments Corporation, authorized by the IRS, 26 states, and over 2000 counties and municipalities to take tax and other government payments.  When you click Pay Total or Pay Half, the web will pass critical tax information to a secure site at OfficialPayments.com where you can pay your taxes using a Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover credit or debit card.   At the Official Payments site, you will be asked to enter your telephone number and credit card information.  You will receive a confirmation number when the transaction is successfully completed and the county treasurer will be notified that your payment was made electronically.  Once the funds are received from your credit card company, the treasurer will record the transaction and the payment will be reflected online.  This process may take several days.  PLEASE TAKE CARE NOT TO PAY ITEMS TWICE. Official Payments Corporation charges a 3% convenience fee for their service.  The county does not collect any part of this fee.

Criteria for Paying Online

Taxes on properties with individual certificates cannot be paid online.  Individuals owing back taxes will be required to pay their accounts in full, including all back taxes.  If the tax amount is less than $25, the full amount must be paid.  Tax items may be listed under several different names and it is the taxpayers responsibility to assure that all items have been paid and that items are not paid twice.

How do I lookup tax records by account?

Go to Search Current Tax Records By Account.  Follow the instructions appearing in gray letters to locate the account number by name of the taxpayer.  You may sort the items however you like by clicking on the column heading.  To see the tax records for a given account, click on the account number.  Not all counties use account numbers and some counties use them selectively.

How can I tell how current the information on the website is?

Select Last Update under Search Current Tax Records or Search Past Records.
